How to Reinstall Your VPS Operating System in VirtFusion
Rebuild a VPS with a fresh operating system, with a clear backup and recovery plan before you begin.
Prepare a rebuild checklist
- Verify the exact VPS name and address; do not rebuild a similarly named production machine by mistake.
- Export databases using their supported backup tools, not just a copy of live database files.
- Record application versions, DNS settings, firewall rules, scheduled jobs, and required licenses.
- Plan a maintenance window and make sure you can access the provider console.
Choose and install the new image
- Open the target VPS in the VirtFusion control panel.
- Select the Rebuild action. The tutorial uses a red Rebuild button.
- Choose a supported operating-system image and review all installation options shown by your plan.
- Read the deletion warning, then select Install only when the backup and maintenance preparations are complete.
- Wait for the installation task to finish and follow the panel’s instructions for obtaining or setting the new login details.
First login after installation
Use the new credentials and check the operating-system version. A rebuild can generate new SSH host keys. Verify the new fingerprint through a trusted console before removing an old known-host entry; do not ignore an unexpected key change.
Apply updates and rebuild the access and firewall policy before restoring public applications. Restore your data, check application health, and test external access. Installation duration varies by image and service; do not treat the short demonstration as a delivery-time guarantee.
When to stop and ask for help
If a rebuild task fails or the new image never becomes reachable, use the console to inspect the boot state and contact support with the task details. Repeated rebuild attempts may make troubleshooting harder and will not recover erased data.
